Company overview

TecSolum is a specialist manufacturer in the field of vehicle components, focusing on products that support runway cleanliness and maintenance. The company is committed to delivering high-quality, durable solutions for demanding operational environments.

Executive summary

The implementation of the robotic station has delivered significant benefits for TecSolum, including:

  • Improved operator safety by removing the need to handle hot components.
  • Enhanced product quality through controlled cooling and precise placement.
  • Increased process efficiency, with reliable operation at the required cycle time.
  • Compliance with safety standards, supported by advanced safety systems.

Project objectives

TecSolum required a solution that would:

  • Enable robotic pickup of brushing head bases directly from the carousel injection moulding machine.
  • Eliminate the need for operators to handle hot plastic parts.
  • Prevent deformation of components by ensuring proper cooling and flat surface placement.
  • Maintain a cycle time of 15 seconds for transferring components from the machine to storage.

The challenge

The manual reception of hot plastic components was both onerous and unsafe for operators. Dropping hot parts into containers risked deformation, and it was essential to ensure that each component was placed on a flat surface for even cooling. The process also needed to meet a strict 15-second cycle time, requiring a reliable and efficient automation solution.

The solution

A robotic station was designed and implemented, featuring a YASKAWA six-axis robot. The robot uses suction cups to collect each moulded component directly from the injection moulding machine and deposits it onto a flat surface of a dedicated cooling device. This approach ensures even temperature distribution and prevents deformation of the hot plastic parts.

The project also included the integration of a safety enclosure, utilising SICK controllers to ensure operator safety and compliance with industry standards.

Key achievements

Automated handling

The robotic station enables fully automated pickup and placement of hot components, eliminating the need for manual handling.

Consistent quality

Components are deposited on a flat cooling surface, ensuring even temperature reception and preventing deformation.

Efficient operation

The solution maintains a 15-second cycle time, meeting production requirements and supporting high throughput.

Enhanced safety

The safety enclosure, based on SICK controllers, provides robust protection for operators and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
